It is an honor and privilege to hold the office of Columbia County Sheriff.

The men and women that work with Jackie, as well as many others in law enforcement, past and present, have shown their support since the beginning of her campaign and endorse her candidacy for Sheriff.

As a former chief of police, I know the importance of having the support of the team that you work with everyday. Having a shared vision of the future and the steps it will take to accomplish that vision are critical to the success of the agency. Jackie has that advantage with the dedicated members that she works with.

I have known Jackie Salvatore for more than 30 years. In that time I have watched her rise, and admired the quiet but powerful way she seeks to help, to do right, to lead. No one who knows her is surprised that she is willing to do more, to reach higher - we’re just proud. And excited. Having served this county myself as a Trooper, Zone Commander, and Troop Commander for the New York State Police, I understand the importance of the kind of community relationships she has created and the real-world experience at the executive level she has gained. When she is elected she will walk in on day one fully prepared to lead an agency which has already been made better by her presence. In her work and in the countless good things she has done, Jackie Salvatore has already proven herself more than capable, more than willing, more than ready to be your next Sheriff.

I had the privilege of working for Senior Investigator Jackie Salvatore who was the director of the New York State Police Employee Assistance Program. As a supervisor, she provided outstanding leadership. She is a great communicator who not only led by example but allowed the investigators working for her the autonomy to flourish and grow. Of the dozens of supervisors I worked for in my 27-year New York State Police career, Jackie Salvatore is at the very top of the list. As good a supervisor as Jackie was, she is an even finer human being. Columbia County will be getting a Sheriff who will be an outstanding leader, but also a tremendous person who truly cares, and will always do right by her community. It is my sincere hope that the people of Columbia County elect Jackie Salvatore as their next Sheriff.

I’ve known Jackie for 22 years and had the privilege of working for her at the New York State Police while she served as the Director of the Employee Assistance Program. I have witnessed firsthand her leadership skills, strong work ethic and commitment to achieving the Unit’s goals. Jackie exemplifies honesty, fairness, and thoughtfulness. She is compassionate, reliable, strong, and committed to defending her values.

I believe it’s essential to elect leaders who are committed to improving their community. Jackie is that leader. Thru her work as a New York State Trooper, as well as Columbia County Undersheriff, she has demonstrated her commitment to public service.

When I first met Jackie Salvatore, my husband and I were in the throes of a crisis. My husband, who worked for the New York State Police, struggled with alcohol, and it became increasingly difficult to control an out-of-control situation.

We needed help from the New York State Police Employee Assistance Program, which Jackie ran.

Jackie was compassionate, kind, level headed and tough when she needed to be...with both of us. My husband eventually admitted himself to rehab, more than once. Jackie made those trips, too, whether it be to drop him off or to attend a meeting.

Jackie was invested in his well-being and making sure he got the help he needed. I will always be eternally grateful for all the support and guidance Jackie and EAP provided us during those difficult years. For all these reasons I endorse Jackie to be the next Columbia County Sheriff.

Though I never worked under Jackie Salvatore’s direct leadership, I did join a unit she led prior to her retirement, the New York State Police Employee Assistance Program. The unit provides resources, advice and peer support to State Police personnel and their families for concerns including stress, relationship difficulties, financial issues, grief and substance abuse. 

As EAP director, Jackie established a culture in which her coordinators provided assistance that was timely, caring and confidential. I had the pleasure to learn from the very people Jackie taught. And I made sure to teach new employees in the same way I was trained. This is a perfect example of how Jackie’s leadership affects an important organization in a positive and lasting way.

Jackie is a family woman, a caring woman, a woman who is so concerned about leading and taking care of the first responders under her that they will better assist themselves, their families and their communities.

Jackie Salvatore deserves your vote as Columbia County Sheriff on Nov. 4!

Gun buyback programs save lives. Thanks to Undersheriff Jackie Salvatore's leadership, Columbia County held its first-ever gun buyback, offering residents a voluntary and safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms. It’s a sensible effort that helps prevent accidental shootings, suicides and guns from falling into the wrong hands, such as those of children.

Every year in America, we face the heartbreak of hundreds of mass shootings—tragedies that leave families shattered and communities traumatized. While no single program can end gun violence, initiatives like this make a real difference. They show that local law enforcement can be proactive, compassionate and community-focused.

Undersheriff Salvatore’s work displays the kind of leadership we need more of—focused on safety, responsibility and prevention rather than politics or party lines. Columbia County’s first gun buyback should not be the last. It should mark the beginning of a continual effort to reduce the number of guns circulating in our homes and neighborhoods.

We all have a part to play in making our communities safer. Jackie Salvatore understands that. She’s dedicated her life to keeping us safe. She’ll be an excellent sheriff. She deserves your vote on Nov. 4.

Over the past three-plus years as Columbia County undersheriff, Jackie Salvatore has demonstrated her ability to solve problems and meet emerging needs with new programs. For example, she established a not-for-profit organizational status to

enable the Sheriff’s Office to seek and receive grants for innovative projects. This has

brought new programs to our county without using taxpayer funds.

She believes that wellness of body, mind and spirit for all of the Sheriff’s Office staff is a critical factor in assuring the best service to the community. Training and improved working hours have made a difference for sheriff deputies and the health of our community.

Jackie’s experience includes not only her more than 31 years as a New York State trooper and undersheriff, but also as manager of a business and later, a service organization. Through this first-hand experience she knows how critical good management is to the success of any organization, including the Sheriff’s Office.

Jackie is no stranger to our county. As undersheriff, she has attended community and nonprofit group meetings and events to listen, learn and collaborate. Her focus is on the community the Sheriff’s Office serves.

I write to enthusiastically endorse Jackie Salvatore for Columbia County Sheriff in the Nov. 4 election. 

Jackie has already shown in her three-and-a-half years as second-in-command in the Sheriff’s Office her dedication to safety and fairness in Columbia County, for example through her gun buyback project that took dozens of illegally-possessed guns, including an assault rifle, off the streets. Jackie created a Community Liaison position that serves as a bridge between Columbia County law enforcement and the people of the County community. With her 28 years as a New York State Trooper, she has a solid background in law enforcement. 

Jackie’s fellow officers and employees in the Sheriff’s Office, and the union representing them endorse her, as do the officers and employees at the county jail, assuring cooperative and effective operations by the two agencies. 

In short, Jackie Salvatore is the top person for the top law enforcement agency.

Jackie Salvatore is the real deal for Columbia County’s next sheriff! As a lifelong resident of Columbia County with over 31 years of law enforcement experience, including 3 1/2 years as the county’s undersheriff--the No. 2 officer in the Sheriff’s Office--Jackie has the on-the-job knowhow that will not only make her a great sheriff, but also will make the transition seamless.

Jackie is firmly committed to our safety. She is focused on crime prevention, rapid response to emergencies and officer preparedness. She knows the value of training the deputy sheriffs and offering professional development. 

Jackie also understands the significance of trust between law enforcement and the public. As undersheriff, she created the Sheriff’s Office’s first Community Liaison role. I remember the first time I heard her speak. She remarked that if we hadn’t met or known her yet, we would by election day, and she has worked toward that ever since by attending community meetings and other public events.

Jackie is the future of law enforcement in our county. She has my vote for sheriff on Nov. 4.

Having known Jackie Salvatore most of my life, as she is a very good friend of my cousin, I’ve always been impressed with her; for both her sense of justice and willingness to understand me.

She has been a role model also when I was growing up because of her sense of fairness, which she has always brought to all aspects of her life and interactions.

Jackie will make a great sheriff. She has extensive experience and respect for the law. She helped me understand how important the police are to the community, and I know she will keep Columbia County safe.
